Local information

The conference venue is on the FU Berlin campus, in a green and quiet neighbourhood in south-west Berlin. It is well connected with the rest of the city by the public transport network and can be easily reached at any time of the day. The city center is approximately 45 minutes away.

Visiting Berlin

We recommend the participants to take the opportunity to enjoy a visit of the diverse and exciting city of Berlin. Here you can admire renowned landmarks, delve into the city’s fascinating history, taste some typical or international food or even let yourself go in the famed nightlife and club scene. Accommodation

Berlin has a variety of hotels in the vicinity of the venue to suit different budgets. We recommend choosing accommodation either close to the venue, or near to a U3 subway station
for easy transportation.

Reaching Berlin

  • Plane: Berlin’s international airport is located on the south-east outskirts of the city, in the area of Schönefeld. It is served by the S9 overground line, and the regional trains FEX, RE7, and RB14, all of which run to Berlin’s central station for further connections.
  • Train: Berlin Hbf (main station) lies close to the center of town, and is well-connected to several national and international destinations. There are direct trains to Copenhagen, Stockholm, Brussels, Warsaw, Amsterdam, Prague, and Vienna – to name but a few. It is about 40 minutes away from the conference venue via the local rail network. We ask conference attendees to consider taking the train if possible!

Transportation in Berlin

Berlin has an extensive public transport network consisting of underground lines (U-Bahn), overground lines (S-Bahn), trams and buses. For more information on routes and timetables and to purchase tickets visit the website of the transport company BVG or download their mobile app.

Please keep in mind that the BER airport is located in tariff zone C. For connections to and from the airport you will need a specific zone C ticket. Regular tickets are only valid for zones A and B, which cover Berlin city.
